Merguita Script: A Handwritten Font for Modern Branding

I was staring at a blank brand board, trying to find that perfect touch of personality for a new client’s project. It was a small café with a warm, inviting vibe, and I needed a font that could reflect both elegance and approachability. That’s when I stumbled upon Merguita Script—a handwritten font that felt just right.

What caught my eye immediately was how Merguita Script managed to blend the sophistication of calligraphy with a modern, fresh feel. The strokes were fluid, the curves elegant, yet there was something effortlessly contemporary about it. It wasn’t too ornate, nor too casual—it had a balance that made it feel like it belonged in any design context.

I started by testing it on a logo draft. The name of the café was simple, but I wanted it to stand out. Placing Merguita Script as the primary typeface gave the logo a personal, human touch. It didn’t feel generic or overused, which is something I always look for in a font for branding work.

As I moved through the visual identity process, I found that Merguita Script worked beautifully in several applications. On packaging mockups, it added a sense of craftsmanship and care. When used on business cards, it brought warmth and familiarity. Even on digital assets like Instagram posts and website headers, it maintained its charm without overwhelming the design.

One thing I noticed early on was how well Merguita Script performed as a display font. It was perfect for headlines, taglines, and short-form text. Its character shapes had enough variation to make each letter feel unique, which helped draw attention without sacrificing readability.

Of course, not every part of the brand needed to be in Merguita Script. I paired it with a clean sans serif font for body text, which kept the overall design balanced. The contrast between the two fonts created a nice visual hierarchy and ensured that the message remained clear and easy to read.

I also appreciated that Merguita Script came with PUA support, allowing for custom ligatures and alternates. This gave me more creative freedom when designing logos and other brand materials. I used some of the alternate characters in the café’s social media graphics to add a subtle, personalized flair.

When I tested the font on a shop sign mockup, I was impressed by how it looked even in larger sizes. The details didn’t get lost, and the overall impression remained classy and professional. It wasn’t just a decorative font; it had real weight and presence.

For printed marketing materials, I found that Merguita Script translated well across different mediums. Whether it was on a flyer, poster, or label sticker, it retained its visual appeal. The font’s consistency across formats made it easier to maintain brand recognition throughout various touchpoints.

I also considered how the font would work in an editorial design context. In a magazine layout, Merguita Script could serve as an accent typeface for headings or pull quotes. It added a creative edge without clashing with the rest of the content.

When working with clients, I always recommend testing a font before committing to it for a full brand system. For this project, I created a few variations using Merguita Script to see how it interacted with different colors, spacing, and layouts. This helped ensure that the font would work well in all the intended applications.

Another consideration was multilingual support. While I didn’t need it for this particular project, knowing that Merguita Script supports a wide range of languages can be important for global brands or businesses targeting diverse audiences.

In terms of file formats, I checked that the font was available in standard formats like OTF and TTF, which made it easy to use across design software. The licensing also allowed for commercial use, which was essential for this client project.

Overall, Merguita Script proved to be a versatile and reliable choice for the café’s brand identity. It brought a sense of authenticity and creativity to the design, while still maintaining professionalism and clarity. Whether it was on a logo, a product label, or a social media graphic, it consistently delivered the right mood and tone.

If you’re looking for a script font that feels both classic and contemporary, Merguita Script is definitely worth exploring. It has the potential to elevate your designs and bring a unique personality to your brand, whether you're working on a small local business or a large-scale commercial project.
